Clean Labels, still continue to baffle people

The basic orientation towards food is constantly evolving and right now the food industry is witnessing a growing awareness and concern about sustainability and health. The focus will also be on the impacts of food waste in particular — environmental, economic, humanitarian — as indicative of broader interest in food values for this year. With more and more citizens experiencing hectic lifestyles and stress, flexible and balanced foods will become a part of daily health routine.
Further, lot of food will get purchased through ecommerce portals, shopping using the internet and apps.
There is growing focus on personalized nutrition, giving rise to Nutrigenomics – studies on how our diets influence our genes. Flavours and savouries continue to be the most sort after considering taste as one of the key features for food purchases.
The other aspect gaining focus is Clean Labels and Clean Packaging. While the clean label movement will reach new heights, the food system will continue to grapple with exactly what the term means and how it will affect claims being made about foods. Over the last few years, clean labels have caught customers attention and led to a change in the buying decision with being ‘all natural’, ‘no preservatives’, ‘non-GMO’, ‘no artificial flavours and colouring’, ‘baked not fried’, ‘zero trans-fat, ‘sugar free’ etc. The market also witnessed that products with the clean label tag instantly gets a premium marketplace and also come with a higher price tag. The industry is now setting new standards under the clean label moniker.
